Caraba 991 with Safari Suspension

In 1984 Van Halen’s “Jump” dominated the charts and Jacky Ickx was tasked with jumping Porsche’s new 4×4 911, the 953, from Paris to Dakar. To the uninitiated, the 953 was the predecessor to the 959, and well, Porsche’s 911 history has been rife with AWD ever since.

Safari 911s are great fun, but a genuine Rothmans 953 is far too rare to hammer through the vast expanse without a care in the world.

Enter UAE-based Caraba Collection’s 991.1 Carrerra 4 GTS with full Rothmans inspired livery and the requisite underpinnings to back-up its throwback looks.

Built by British bodybuilding studio Xquisite and ByDesign Motorsport from Saudi Arabia, this tasty example sports Elephant Racing prepared safari coilovers at all four corners with a total lift of 2.25 inches over stock with a little over an inch of that coming from the street height offered by the suspension and an additional inch gained from the oversized tires.

With this set-up, Caraba Collection’s 991 certainly looks the part, but unlike its 953 point of inspiration, is still completely streetable.

Rounding out the build are new wheels, a power kit with a winch, a hinged unit for additional lighting, a roof rack and a spare wheel mount while power comes in at 430 horsepower from its normally aspirated 3.8 engine mated to a manual transmission.

Happy Motoring!
