We have Bilstein struts in a choice of
regular and RSR types.
Regular Bilstein struts are as-equipped
on 911 turbos and were optional on 72-89 normally aspirated 911s.
These come complete with a Bilstein HD insert.
RSR struts are developed for race cars.
They have a threaded body that allows optional installation of coil
over springs (can be used with coils or torsion bars). They
have a spindle raised 19mm to improve geometry and suspension
travel on lowered cars. They have a stronger, gusseted
spindle for racing. And they include an insert with
special RSR valving.
In general we recommend custom valving for RSR inserts.
We can custom match the valving to your spring / torsion bars.
Raised Spindles
We modify regular or RSR struts to raise the spindles.
This service can be performed on new struts you purchase from us, or
your existing Bilstein struts.
Raised spindles offer a couple of advantages. For
cars that have been lowered, raised spindles restore suspension
travel. This reduces the propensity of lowered cars to bottom
out. Raised spindle height also improves geometry with a
superior camber curve that is better matched to modern tires, thus
improving grip.
The amount the spindle can / should be raised depends on the wheel
diameter. Regular Bilstein struts are designed to work
with 14 inch wheels, this forced a severely limited spindle height.
With modern wheels, we can improve on that original design.
- 15 inch wheels can use 17mm raised spindles
- 15 inch wheels can use 19mm with wheel spacers or
clearancing of ball joint hardware
We can modify regular struts to gusset the spindles. Gussets
add strength to the spindle for racing applications and are similar
to those equipped on RSR struts.
