Shock Absorber Services

Performance suspension damping

Shock Services - Our in-house shock services provide everything you need to upgrade, test, modify and renew your shocks.  Send your shocks in for service, or have added services performed on your newly purchased shocks.

Dyno testing - Are your shocks functioning properly?  How well do your shock pairs match?   Are they valved properly for your springs?   Without a shock dyno test, you can't answer any of these questions.

If you're serious about performance, you need a dyno test for your shocks.  Without it you are literally driving blind to the performance (and problems) of your shocks.

Even new commercial shocks can be plagued with problems.   We find approximately 20% of new, off-the-shelf shocks show erratic performance or un-acceptable performance deviation.  If you buy new Bilsteins from us and have them dyno tested at purchase, we will replace them if they fail our tests.    Podium shocks already include dyno testing.

Most problem shocks show no external indications, and are not obvious when driving.  Failed or poorly matched shocks cause hard to diagnose handling problems.  If your car doesn't feel planted, confidence inspiring, and "right" - despite seemingly good suspension and setup, the problem may be your shocks.  Our shock dyno test will expose any problems.

Do you have adjustable shocks?   Dyno testing is a must for building a table to map adjuster positions between shock pairs.  Hint - adjuster positions never match.

We use a sophisticated computer controlled Roehrig shock dyno. Dyno test results include a temperature-stabilized force/velocity plot, gas pressure measurement, and seal drag measurement.  This is absolutely instrumental for ensuring proper shock operation and diagnosing shock problems.

Pair-Matching - This is a performance secret that separates fast cars from the mid-pack.   High-dollar race teams use custom built shocks, then tune or hand select them to ensure mated pairs perform the same.

Even the best mass-produced shocks have manufacturing tolerance yielding performance variation of up to +/-15%.  That means two randomly selected, brand new, tested good, "identical" shocks could have damping forces mismatched by 30%.  Lesser brands are even worse.

Our Pair-matching service involves dyno testing a batch of identically valved shocks, then hand selecting pairs that have similar performance.  We assign serial numbers to track the pair and include the dyno plots with the shocks.

Pair-matching is absolutely critical for top performance.

Pair-matching is standard on all Podium shocks, and optional on most Bilstein shocks when purchased new from us.  We can also pair-match custom valved shocks.

Maintenance / Rebuilding - Shocks are wear-items that need periodic maintenance and servicing.  Old shock oil can look like used motor oil, dark with contamination and loss of lubricity that accelerates wear of shock bodies, rods, and seals.   Seals leak, and valve shims sometimes crack.   Shocks lose nitrogen gas pressure over time, the nitrogen escapes past the divider piston seal and into the oil!

Our shock maintenance rebuild includes changing the shock oil, replacement of any worn seals / metal components, and nitrogen gas recharge.   After a maintenance rebuild, your shocks will deliver as-new performance for less than the price of new.   Shocks are dyno tested and the dyno plot is provided.

A reasonable Maintenance rebuild schedule for a street car is every 5 years.   For race cars every 1-2 seasons.

We offer maintenance rebuilds on Podium and Bilstein shocks with a 3 day typical turnaround time.

Custom Valving - We custom valve specifically for your springs, weight, and planned usage.  All custom valved shocks include a maintenance rebuild.

Custom valved shocks include shock dyno testing and the dyno plots for your shocks.

We re-valve Podium and Bilstein shocks in-house with a 3 day typical turnaround time.

Conversion to adjustable nitrogen gas - We can convert your Podium Street or Bilstein shocks for external nitrogen gas refilling, fitting an external schrader valve.   This allows you to adjust the nitrogen gas pressure and recharge as needed.  Nitrogen gas pressure can be used as spring preload and "trim" to spring rates.

Includes a maintenance rebuild and dyno testing.   3 day typical turnaround time.

Convert to single/double adjustable - We can convert your non-adjustable Podium or Bilstein rear shocks to single, or double adjustable type.

Includes a maintenance rebuild and dyno testing.   3 day typical turnaround time.
