Hood Vented Oil Cooler

Max cooling needed

In California most of the race tracks are in the desert.  In the heat of the summer day, temps often hover in the upper 90s to over 100 degrees.  In the shade.

Combine that with an air cooled engine running full throttle at redline all day and ...keeping oil temperature under control can be a challenge.

Our '73 project car was equipped with a fender mounted cooler and finned oil lines.  It worked well with the 2.4 liter.   But with a planned engine upgrade, the oil cooling needed a boost to match.

The plan is to build a killer oil cooler setup;  a large center mounted cooler, ducted through the hood for superior aero, combined with fined oil lines for good measure.

This picture is a sneak-peak at the result.   Follow along for the step-by-step to getting it there.
