Body
Modifications After
the
first cut, it gets easier

Preparing to cut into a perfectly-good
car gives pause. You take a deep breath, then trigger the cutting
wheel. Once the cutting starts, you stop thinking about
it and just get it done.
The
aluminum airbox was the formed separately from the car.
All the body mods are built to fit the airbox.

Key to
the project was the airbox. Sized to match the cooler and the width of the stock hood indentation.
The box provides a large non-restrictive path for the exit
air.

 |
Measure
and cut. Size of the opening is dictated by the air
box. The cut edges are painted to prevent
corrosion. This was later sprayed body color.

RS
bumper is cut to size of formed opening.

Hood
opening layout in tape. Tape was used as a guide for
the cut. This is a fiberglass hood.
|
 |
Once
cut, the hood was curled down and a mold made to form the
sides of the vent.
|
 |
The
sides are glassed in.
|
 |
The
fiberglass section is extended with aluminum to meet the
airbox. It's all finished, painted, and the weather
strip installed to make a seal between the hood and airbox.
