Rgruppe Monterey or Bust! Impossible
schedule '73 911 Outlaw

April
19, 13 days to go
Body
is in sealer
The
body work has taken much longer than planned. The good news is
it is turning out much better than originally planned. While the
shell was still rough, minor imperfections seemed completely
acceptable. But as things became more refined those minor
imperfections began to stand out and couldn't be allowed to
slide. However, this could continue forever and Monterey is
less than two weeks away.
A
wise uncle once told me "perfection is never achieved, it is
only approached asymptotically. Your challenge is to decide when you
are close enough". My
uncle's words rang true - time had come to quite refining and shoot
some paint.
A
spray booth was constructed using plastic film, fans and filters.
Walls and ceiling are covered with plastic film to reduce dust and
prevent any falling particles. A box fan with a furnace filter
was used to pressurize the booth with fresh air.
The
entire shells was shot with sealer. A full size HVLP gun and a
detail gun were used. The paint is Dupont Chromaone, a single
stage paint.
The
car is now a body in white. It's starting to feel like real
progress has been made.

The
booth was constructed by covering the walls and ceiling with
polythene. A box fan provides a filtered
positive-pressure fresh air source. Six lamps and two
windows provide adequate lighting.
