Rgruppe Monterey or Bust! Impossible
schedule '73 911 Outlaw

April
22, 10 days to go
Body
in blue
With
all the midnight photos it's looking like a clandestine
operation. But the darkness is appropriate since that's when
most of the work is being done. Unfortunately the shell's new
color is a little washed out by the light. It's indeed a
beautiful Gulf Blue. There will be plenty of time for daylight
photos later.
The
shell is painted in full. This was the single largest part of
the project and its completion is a major milestone that I am
celebrating with a favorite German malt beverage as I type.
The
painting took substantially longer than planned. However, the
quality of this project was not to be compromised by the accelerated
schedule. The level of finish and detail is actually
substantially better than original plan. The attention to
detail is evident in the pictures. The shell has turned out
just great.
The
paint chosen is Dupont Chromaone. It's a single stage that is very
high quality and should last a long time.

The
shell in Gulf Blue. It's a subdued color that will
provide a great backdrop to the orange bumpers.

Why
the obsession with door jams, I don't know. But they
sure look good.

of rear wheel well. Both inner and outer panels are
painted. Is there no end to the obsession?

This
is the same rear window corner that was welded with a patch.
You couldn't tell now.

 |
Rocker
panels and jack receivers turned out great. Should be
clearly visible to all cars run over at the track.
