Battery
relocation and fire suppression
Fire
safety is a primary concern. Watch a couple cars catch fire at
the track and you'll agree. Our project is equipped with an
on-board halon fire suppression system. It also has a battery
disconnect and engine kill switch to cut power in the event of
electrical fire. The switch can be triggered from outside the
car or from a dash mounted pull handle.

15
lb dry cell battery is relocated into the smuggler's
box. The reduced weight and improved distribution are
one of the best bang-for-the-buck improvements you can make. Electrical
cutoff switch provides complete battery disconnect and kills
the engine in the event of electrical fire or other
emergency.
|
 |
Note
the two red cables. One is routed outside the car allowing
corner workers to shut it down. The other is routed to
the dash.
|
 |
External
pull handle connects to the cutoff switch. The handle
takes advantage of the existing antennae hole. This
car won't have a radio, the sound system is in the rear.
|
 |
Old
radio hole in the dash is fitted with an aluminum plate that
holds the driver's electrical cutoff handle (right) and the
fire suppression handle (left).
|
 |
10 lbs
halon fire bottle is mounted to the passenger seat
base. Plumbing runs under the carpet to the driver
seat and the engine for halon distribution.
|
 |
Driver
halon nozzle is mounted under the column.
|
 |
Engine
halon nozzle goes through the firewall.
