Windows
The
windows are in the car. Front windshield remains glass but the
side and rear windows have been replaced with polycarbonate to
reduce weight. Replacing the glass with polycarbonate shaved
about 29 lbs. In addition the manual window lifts have been
removed to save an additional 10 lbs. Total savings 39 lbs.
That's
a valuable 39 lbs because it sits high on the car. Eliminating
that weight from the canopy lowers the center of mass and will
reduce body roll, dive and squat.
Polycarbonate
side windows can be run legally in POC and PCA track events in the
closed position to improve aerodynamics. Glass windows must be in
the down position.

Rear
polycarbonate window requires clips and rigid aluminum stays
to prevent blowout or blow in. Rear
window is lightweight 1/8" and saves about 15 lbs!

of lower clips and stays. Clips are designed to go over
stock window trim without damaging the delicate aluminum.

of upper clips and stays. The lightweight stays are made of
aluminum yet are very rigid. Stays and clips have a
combined weight of about 1 pound.
|
 |
Side
windows are also polycarbonate. Rear quarters are
1/8" and save 2 lbs each. Door windows are
thicker and more rigid to prevent blow out, yet still save 5
lbs each.
|
 |
Window
lifts have been eliminated saving 5 lbs per door.
Nylon straps provide the ability to raise and lower window. Inner
door panel is not yet installed but will have a hole with
grommet to allow the nylon loop through.
